About Alpine Europe
printAlpine Europe Summer School is an intensive two-week programme that explores sustainable approaches to the built environment through the lens of the European timber circular economy. Hosted in Slovenia, the programme examines the full value chain — from forest management and material production to design and construction — within a rich Alpine and Mediterranean European context.
The 4th edition, taking place from 15–28 June 2026, is organised by the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT), the Andrej Marušič Institute (UP IAM), and the NEBAP Hub, all members of the University of Primorska, in collaboration with Oregon State University (USA).
Alpine Europe Summer School is taught in English by an international team of instructors from Europe and the United States, bringing expertise across forestry, wood science, architecture, and sustainability. The programme combines lectures with site visits, excursions, and fieldwork, offering participants hands-on insight into circular economy practices and the New European Bauhaus principles of sustainability, beauty, and inclusiveness.
The programme is accredited in both the United States and Europe, awarding 6 undergraduate or 3 graduate credits through Oregon State University, and 6 ECTS through the University of Primorska.
Held biennially, each edition features a unique programme of visits and learning experiences. Beyond academic content, the Summer School fosters intercultural exchange and collaboration among students from diverse international backgrounds.
